New Gotham City, Simone Auditorium, Wednesday afternoon
"Everybody ready?"

"Ready!"

"Then let's DO IT!"

'It' being a free-climb of Simone Auditorium on-campus, during lunch hour. Eight members of the Jump Club ran and jumped at the hall at once, and started climbing the steeply angled walls and cross-beams toward the top. The longest they could stay was probably a half-hour, before the campus security decided to shut them down. They usually turned a blind eye to the Jump Club's attempts on the water tower and a few other structures on-campus-- it got great publicity for the campus-- but they couldn't actually say "sure, go ahead, climb the outside of the buildings."

Dan, a forestry grad student and the club's main coordinator, was in the lead, Dinah right behind and below him, Etienne and Jody staggered below her on their side. They'd done this kind of climb once before, over at the two-story library. Six stories was different, and there were fewer handholds on the auditorium. But still! It was working, going great, Dinah was finding the hand-holds, grinning up at the sun. Almost as fun as air-walking--

"Merde!"

She jerked, turning to look down, and saw Etienne hanging by one hand, feet windmilling for purchase. Jody was reaching up from below him, blue eyes wide and alarmed. He was three stories up, above the pads they'd put down on the pavement, but at this height--

"Etienne, grab for my foot!" Dinah called, getting a good grip and stretching one leg downward. Jody was trying to grab Etienne's trainer, and give him a boost--

He reached, and missed. His leg struck out, loosening his other handhold, and he started to fall backwards away from the building, yelling.

Dinah grabbed him with her telekinesis and slammed him back into the angled surface, and held him in place until he got a grip, groaning in pain, and starting to try and carefully make his way back to the plaza. Jody climbed up to help him, and Dinah reversed course to join them, fingers trembling. So close, too close--

Dan was already sliding back down yelling, "Off off off," to the whole team.

"What the hell was that, 'Tienne?" Dan asked, face pale when they were all on the ground. "I thought you were toast."

"Wind?" Etienne said, eyes dazed, shaking. "I don't-- my fingers slipped, and then my weight, I didn't have my feet set... Shit." He started muttering in French. Jody was hugging him.

"Right, we're done for the day," Dan decided. He huffed a breath and ran a hand through his curls. "Everybody, meet back at the club room, Jody, take him to the Clinic to get checked out, okay?"

The other four team members nodded soberly, and Dinah released a slow breath. And didn't meet anyone's eyes.

[ooc: establishy but open!]

Momoko was desperately trying to not study for an exam later this week, so she stretched out on her bed and dialed the BFF.

Not that needed a reason to call Dinah, of course. But catching up with Dinah was totally more important than studying.

Or so she would tell anyone who asked.

So, RING RING, Dinah! Occupy Momoko!

Dinah was back on top of her dorm, contemplating what had happened a few hours earlier, by the time Momoko called. She also needed the distraction.

"Hey, M. What's the news from Tokyo City?"

"I don't want to study, Dinah! Tell them I don't have to study." Someone was pouty. "Totally nothing is happening here. Leda came to visit last week, and that was cool? And Mojo Jojo is in jail again. But now it's boring again."

"Awwww." Dinah grinned. "What are you trying to study? And aren't there any more group dates coming up?"

"Ethics. ETHICS! So booooring!" A long sigh. "Oh, sure. We just had one the other day. Laser tag! I totally picked them off one by one! So much fun!" At least until Sato-kun totally ruined it.

"I *so* need to go do that with people," Dinah decided. "And why's it boring? Is it like Professor Skywalker's class, or what?"

In the back of her head she was still mulling over the incident at Simone Auditorium.

"I've got Philosophy homework I should be doing. Confusing."

"Totally NOT like Professor Skywalker's class! This is all about ethics of law and stuff. More like Professor Cabot, but with police stuff instead of lawyers. Police rules and reasons for rules, how to apply rules, who has to follow the rules, when the rules apply... Ugh."

Momoko flumped her face into her pillow. Hopefully Dinah could interpret what she said next as: "Did I interrupt your studying? Sorry!"

"You need those if you're going to be a cop, Momoko," Dinah said, not without sympathy. "Do you want to get in trouble for doing your job wrong? I mean, you've got time to learn them, but still." Momoko was really not suited to that part of the job, nope.

"Enh. No. Just hanging out. Thinking. Had a close call today in Jump Club. Well. Not me, someone else."

That got Momoko to sit up again. "Eh?! A close call? What happened?!"

"We were doing a free-climb of the auditorium, and Etienne almost fell from three stories up." Dinah was quiet a moment, then admitted, "He did fall. I slammed him back into the wall so he could recover, with telekinesis."

Momoko frowned, trying to understand. "Is free climb what I think it is, Dinah?"

"No gear," Dinah clarified. "Just gloves. And the right kind of shoes. Simone Auditorium has a sloped wall at about fifteen degrees that's a challenge... anyway. Etienne lost his grip, and... well, no one knew it was me."

It still made her all thinky.

"Dinah?!" Momoko gasped into the phone. "Seriously? Have the others even trained for that?"

She totally didn't doubt Dinah had.

"He's okay, right? And are you sure no one knows it was you? What do they think happened?"

"Seriously trained, yeah. Dan's the one training me for parachute jumps," Dinah told her. "And most everyone else did rock-climbing or bungee-jumping in high school before they joined this group." She sighed. "And they're not sure-- freak wind? I mean, there was nothing to see. And no one knows I'm a meta."

Momoko was totally sure that rock climbing and bungee jumping included ropes and that parachutes counted as 'gear'.

"Good. Maybe everyone will be more worried about your friend than the wind. Are you okay?"
